Aged care facilities opt for resilient vinyl

Resilient vinyl finishes are becoming popular for wet areas in aged care institutions. Vinyl coverings that provide hygienic, non absorbent, slip resistant surfaces need the correct subfloor preparation in order to ensure a quality installation.

When it comes to flooring in wet areas a major consideration for aged care facilities is eliminating slip and trip hazards. The subfloor preparation in such applications has the following additional requirements:-

* Firstly a moisture membrane must be installed, one that is compatible with vinyl coverings.
* Secondly the smoothing compounds need to capable of creating ramps and applied down to a feather edge, thereby minimising step downs from showers to adjoining areas.

ARDEX have a number of systems using a range of rapid hardening and rapid drying cements, waterproof coatings and smoothing compounds. These systems provide a smooth flat porous finish for the installation of vinyl coverings. In addition, they are quick to install with the total process allowing vinyl to be installed in less than 2 days.
