A challenging operation

The 5000m2 refurbishment of Manning Base Hospital presented a challenge with different floor heights, residue of old flooring adhesives in the old parts of hte building and rain damaged slabs in the new secions.

Location: Taree, NSW
Project Date: January 2002

The ARDEX solution was used to create a smooth, flat subfloor ready for the high traffic of this busy hospital.

At Manning Base Hospital, the flooring contractor used scarifiers to remove the old black jack adhesive and a combination of diamond grinding and scarifying equipment to prepare the new concrete. The diamond grinders provided a two fold benefit by firstly removing remnants of curing compounds and construction dirt to provide a clean, solid, porous finish for the bonding of the ARDEX levelling cements. Secondly, they removed high points on the concrete hence reducing the quantity of floor levelling cements required.

ARDEX K500 was used for pre-level areas with large undulations, whilst ARDEX K15 was used as the final smoothing layer. Special attention was paid to the long corridors as the vinyl flooring was to be coved up walls and the wall/floor junction needed to be straight to ensure an even cover.
