The 5000m2 refurbishment of Manning Base Hospital presented a challenge with different floor heights, residue of old flooring adhesives in the old parts of the building and rain damaged slabs in the new sections.

Location: Room Nineteen, Northbridge WA
Contractor: Superior Flooring
Project Date: May 2004

At the front of what is now Room Nineteen (winner of the reality program My Restaurant Rules), stood the original counter separating the carpet and tiled areas. To open up the space for the dining area, the old counter needed to be removed and the floor levelled. Even though the floor was being carpeted, a perfectly level floor was essential for this upmarket establishment. Therefore the contractors, Superior Flooring who specialise in hospitality refurbs, elected to stick with what they know is reliable, ARDEX K15 - levelling compound.

Since the existing tiles were sound, they did not need to be removed, simply cleaned and primed with ARDEX 82 (primer for dense substrates). The remainder of the concrete was primed with ARDEX 51. Once priming was complete, ARDEX K 15 was used to create a level floor, walkable after 2 hours.

ARDEX K 15 can be applied at any thickness in a single operation and provides a perfectly level floor without fail.
