Under the Same Sky Since Childhood

For generations of Aucklanders, Stardome has been a place of wonder. School trips, family outings, and late nights spent watching the stars. But after years of exposure, the curved metal dome and roof began to fail. Leaks had spread, threatening the building and its heritage.

The Challenge

The ageing membrane roof had suffered from constant UV exposure and thermal movement. Seams had opened, fixings had loosened, and temporary repairs were no longer effective. A reliable, long-term waterproofing solution was needed for a complex structure that couldn’t afford downtime.

The Solution: ARDEX WPM 715 WeldTec® Membrane

ARDEX WPM 715 was chosen for its flexibility, strength, and proven UV resistance in New Zealand conditions. The weldable sheet membrane is designed for exposed roofing and can handle ongoing movement and maintenance traffic.

ARDEX certified applicator, installed the system under full scaffold containment. The membrane was heat-welded onsite, creating seamless joints across the roof, parapets, and around the copper domes without relying on tapes or adhesives. The result is a continuous, watertight surface built for decades of service.
